Outerthought has considerable experience with open source product development. We have successfully launched several open source projects ourselves and actively support selected other ones.
ProductsOur flagship product is Daisy, an open source CMS (content management system) in use primarily for content and knowledge management, and the management of complex information repositories. Kauri is our open source, holistic REST-centric web application development framework. Holistic, in the sense that Kauri aims to provide a complete solution for team-based development of internet infrastructure applications, for both front-end developers and back-end engineers. Lily, our latest product, is a NoSQL-based, scalable and searchable content repository and application platform. It's the first content repository based on Apache HBase and SOLR. Business modelOur consultancy and services offerings are focused around our own open source products. This means we run continuous field tests and generate real-world experience that help us to improve our software. We routinely deliver turn-key solutions based on our own software. Next to these service offerings, a selected number of our customers choose to financially participate in the development and growth of our products, by funding specific improvements or through a general development contract. More than 50% of our development investment has been paid for or is supported by our customers. This way, our customers co-invest in a shared software portfolio, in which each individual participant reaps maximum benefit by sharing costs. This collaborative, commercial open source development model has been successful for our customers and ourselves for more than 7 years already. Why not join us? |
All our products are made available under the Apache License. We believe a liberal and non-viral software license helps to foster the commercial adoption of our software.
